About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN Supervisor) - Casual plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality nursing care while providing leadership and guidance to nursing staff within a healthcare setting in Canada. This position ensures that patient care standards are consistently met by overseeing daily nursing operations and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. The RN Supervisor acts as a clinical resource, supporting staff in complex patient care situations and facilitating professional development. Additionally, this role involves managing staffing schedules, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and promoting a safe and compassionate environment for patients and staff alike. Ultimately, the RN Supervisor contributes to the continuous improvement of nursing practices and patient outcomes through effective supervision and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable Canadian province or territory.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent nursing education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or similar healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a nursing role.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Experience working in a supervisory or charge nurse capacity within a hospital or community health setting.
  • Additional education or certification in nursing leadership, management, or healthcare administration.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare informatics.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian healthcare regulations and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support nursing staff during shifts to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
  • Coordinate patient care activities and collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Manage staffing assignments, monitor workload distribution, and assist with recruitment and orientation of new nursing personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including infection control and safety standards.
  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, facilitating ongoing education and professional development.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and implementation of nursing protocols.
  • Respond promptly to patient care concerns and emergencies, making critical decisions to maintain patient safety and well-being.
