About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Stress Technician supports the safe and efficient delivery of cardiac and pulmonary stress testing services. Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, operate stress testing equipment, monitor patient tolerance, and ensure accurate documentation. The technician plays a key role in promoting patient safety, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a smooth workflow within the department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current Oregon RT License
  • Current RRT
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • None required (experience).

  • Experience in a clinical or diagnostic testing environment.
  • Prior ECG or stress testing experience.
  • Completion of coursework or training in respiratory therapy, cardiology, or related health sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for cardiac and pulmonary stress tests, including explanation of procedures, placement of leads, and application of monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with conducting treadmill or pharmacologic stress tests under clinical supervision.
  • Monitor patient status (vital signs, ECG rhythm, appearance, respiratory effort) throughout testing and promptly report changes to supervising staff.
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy throughout all procedures.
  • Operate and troubleshoot stress testing systems, ECG monitors, blood pressure devices, and respiratory monitoring equipment.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and cleaning, reporting any malfunction or safety concern promptly.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and restock testing rooms as needed.
  • Accurately enter patient data, test results, and observations into the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure all pre-test requirements (provider orders, patient consent, medication lists) are complete prior to testing.
  • Support efficient patient flow by coordinating test schedules and preparing testing areas.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, Respiratory Therapists, nurses, and other team members involved in patient care.
  • Follow infection prevention processes, department protocols, and safety standards at all times.
  • Participate in departmental training, competency assessments, and quality improvement activities.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
