About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Skilled Nursing Unit (LTC) at MHH Harvard Care Center utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. This role involves administering prescribed medications and treatments, performing assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, and documenting according to standards. The RN develops, initiates, and executes patient care plans, participates in performance improvement activities, and offers innovative solutions to practice issues. They also engage in mentoring, precepting, and personal development to support continuous learning and growth within the organization.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • ADN required upon hire.
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience with a certification.
  • Licensed as an RN in state of practice.
  • Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Other certification(s) per unit requirements. For example: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, and NRP.
  • Professional Nursing Certification in your specialty or Advanced Degree (ex. Masters).
  • If hired prior to 09/01/2024 may require a Certification Completion Agreement or specific years of applicable experience to qualify per department guidelines.
  • May include color blind test (per department guidelines).

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act.
  • Performs assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation of care.
  • Documents according to standards of care.
  • Develops, initiates and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise & guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
  • Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process.
  • Offers ideas and/or solutions to practice issues.
  • Uses innovative methods and intuitive skills to develop and implement plans of care.
  • Provides innovative ways to educate patient/families.
  • Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the patient/family educational needs.
  • Actively participates in mentoring and precepting new partners to the organization.
  • Positively influences the professional and organizational environments and shared governance.
  • Engages in personal development and supports system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Actively participates in a minimum of 1 departmental or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
  • Completes 20 Continuing education hours per year (10 of these are required for IL licensure) or WI: 20 Education Hours.
