About The Position

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) RN position supports the Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA) Emergency Department (ED). This is a contingent position, requiring five 12-hour on-call shifts per month. The THAA ED is a 54-bed Level 1 Trauma ER that provides comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages, treating over 90,000 patients annually. The ED offers a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and teamwork. The SANE program provides medical forensic examinations and community resources for adolescents, 12 years of age and older, who have been sexually assaulted. SANE Nurses strive to facilitate the health process and ensure that patients are not further traumatized by an exam. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are Registered Nurses who specialize in the medical forensic care of the patient who has experienced sexual assault or abuse. The SANE often collaborates with other disciplines in the community to provide services to victims and can serve as an expert witness in legal proceedings. SANE nurses collaborate with Police, Prosecutors, and Counselors to provide coordinated care.
