About The Position

WakeMed offers an accredited year-long Nurse Residency Program called “Putting the Puzzle Together” designed to bridge the gap between nursing school education and the demands of clinical practice. This program supports new graduate nurses through their first year, with a high retention rate. Residents are paired with trained preceptors and supported by dedicated Nurse Residency Coordinators. The program includes six milestone classes throughout the year, focusing on topics such as orientation, quality improvement, clinical judgment, ethics, career development, and transition to practice. Additionally, residents receive specialty clinical training in areas like Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation, Basic Arrest Management, and NIH Stroke Scale.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an accredited ADN or BSN program
  • Newly licensed RNs or nurses with 6 months or less of post-licensure experience
  • Candidates eligible for RN licensure in North Carolina
  • Individuals who are passionate about patient care and committed to continuous learning
  • Team players who value collaboration, communication, and compassionate care
  • Registered Nurse Required
  • Diploma Nursing Required - Or Associate's Degree Nursing Required

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Develop clinical judgment, critical-thinking skills, and professional nursing competencies through guided mentorship and hands-on experience.
  • Grow into a specialty – acute care, critical care, emergency services, women’s services, perioperative services, and others.
  • Provide total comprehensive nursing to patients and their families through the implementation of a plan of care.
  • Understand the needs of the organization and support the mission, values and management of patient care services.
  • Actively support and incorporate ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, North Carolina Board of Nursing Practice Act, WakeMed's Division of Nursing Professional Practice model, and WakeMed's Patient & Family Centered Care model.
