About The Position

The Registered Nurse/RN in the Radiology department is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing quality, compassionate care by maintaining standards of professional nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families. This role also involves providing leadership to other team members by articulating expected standards of care, supervising and encouraging team members, and supporting their contributions.

Requirements

• Current Alabama RN licensure.
• Must be CPR, ACLS certified as needed.
• Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
• Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
• Physical presence onsite is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the patient’s condition on admission and on an ongoing basis, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs, pain assessment/management, nutritional and functional status, developmental or age-related factors, and discharge planning needs. Specific ages include neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
• Evaluates and regularly reevaluates the nursing needs of the patient; initiates, develops, implements, and makes necessary revisions to the patient’s plan of care.
• Monitors, directs, and evaluates patient care delivery for all patients within the Imaging Department.
• Prioritizes customer and patient satisfaction and utilizes AIDET principles.
• Works with other departments, modalities, and personnel to provide excellent care to patients and families.
• Follows imaging department and DCH Health System policies and procedures, including safety practices and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
• Administers medication, IV therapy, and performs treatments according to policy and procedure, with knowledge of contrast and possible contrast reactions.
• Able to perform sedation in Angio, with knowledge of sedation medication and reversal agents.
• Uses I Care principles for proper patient identification, correct exam, and to improve patient communication and engagement.
• Assists physicians with stress procedures, with knowledge of medications for cardiac stress procedures and reversal.
• Monitors patients.
• Reports pertinent patient observations and test results to the appropriate person and records them accurately and concisely.
• Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients, such as cardiac arrest, and recognizes dysrhythmia. Knowledge of emergency and procedural medications is expected.
• Able to hold arterial and venous pressure for extended periods.
• Works with manager/supervisor/staff to control inventory and communicates problems and needs.
• Familiar with processes for multiple staffing locations including Inpatient, ED, Outpatient, and Northport.
• Expected to be multi-task oriented.
• Efficient in scheduling and coordinating care for interventional radiology patients.
• Provides nursing services and is familiar with multiple disciplines and procedures within the Imaging department, assisting as needed.
• Plans, provides, and documents patient and/or significant other education based on identified needs and barriers to learning.
• Practices good stewardship with supplies, equipment, and department resources.
• Provides ongoing status updates to patient and/or significant other.
• Applies safety principles when performing care and accurately documents observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
• Assigns and delegates nursing care to team members in accordance with patient needs and team member capabilities.
• Functions proficiently in the specified area with little or no supervision.
• Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards.
• Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Adheres to DCH Behavioral Standards.
• Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
• Identifies and reduces unsafe practices and recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards.
• Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
• Adheres to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.
• Any job assignment requiring call during off-duty hours becomes part of that duty and will be compensated as is customary for the hospital.
• Able to wear lead aprons for extended periods.
