Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
About The Position
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The PCU RN provides specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and post-surgical cases. This role requires advanced monitoring, including telemetry, and a high level of nursing intervention for patients needing closer monitoring than medical/surgical units, but less than the ICU. The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Virginia.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of acute care experience, with PCU or ICU experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
Nice To Haves
- PCU or ICU experience preferred.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and continuous monitoring of patient vitals and telemetry data.
- Administer medications, manage intravenous lines, and perform complex medical treatments.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Educate patients and families on disease management and post-discharge self-care.
- Act as a patient advocate, providing compassionate care and support to families.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatment within the electronic health record system.
