About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Texas Health Southwest. The role involves delivering care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The nurse will incorporate age-specific safety and infection control measures, initiate actions to meet patient information needs, and maintain continuity of patient care between shifts and during transfers. The department is a 36-bed PCU with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:4, serving patients requiring intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal conditions. The facility is a MAGNET facility, Level III Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke Center with a Stroke/Neuro designated unit.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • PCU/Tele and/or strong Med/Surg experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
