About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Texas Health Southwest, Fort Worth, TX. The unit has 36 beds and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, depending on acuity. The patient population includes intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal patients. The facility is a MAGNET facility, a Level III Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke Center with a Stroke/Neuro designated unit. The role involves delivering care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, incorporating age-specific safety/infection control measures, initiating action to meet patient information needs, and maintaining continuity of patient care.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • PCU/Tele and/or strong Med/Surg experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
