About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) position is for the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and is PRN (as needed) for night shifts at Texas Health Southwest. The department is a 36-bed PCU with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:4, focusing on intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal patient populations. The facility is a MAGNET facility, a Level III Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke Center with a stroke-designated unit. Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • PCU experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • PCU experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
