The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Patient Command Center is responsible for the ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of customer needs to enable proactive planning of admissions, discharges, and transfers. This role involves performing reviews of potential admissions, collaborating with the healthcare team to match patient needs with the appropriate level of care, and identifying alternatives to admission. The RN also manages patient and bed data, participates in risk reduction and patient safety efforts, and demonstrates critical thinking in high-pressure environments. A key aspect of the role is maintaining an overview of capacity within Advocate Health Care, matching bed requests with available resources, and anticipating bed needs to create a plan for patient assignments. This includes working collaboratively with multiple departments, utilizing resources for informed decisions, and overseeing the bed management process through rounding and communication. The RN has the authority to compel nursing units to accept new patients and explain clinical reasoning, assesses the level of care for patients, and communicates bed flow status to leadership. They are responsible for managing an electronic bed board and reservation process, documenting activities, and participating in performance improvement initiatives. Additionally, the RN acts as a professional role model, maintains knowledge of department and hospital activities, and fosters teamwork and interdepartmental communication. They are expected to maintain licensure, pursue professional certification, and attend staff meetings.
