The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Patient Command Center is responsible for the proactive planning of admissions, discharges, and transfers. This role involves reviewing potential admissions to match patient needs with the most appropriate level of care, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure medical criteria are met, and identifying alternatives to admission when acute care is not required. The RN also manages patient and bed data for trending and planning, participates in risk reduction and patient safety efforts, and demonstrates critical thinking in high-pressure situations. Additionally, the role involves maintaining an overview of capacity within Advocate Health Care, anticipating bed needs, and collaborating with multiple departments to facilitate patient throughput. The RN oversees the bed management process, drives efficient patient flow, and ensures appropriate hospital utilization in accordance with regulations and standards. This position also involves participating in performance improvement activities, documenting bed management program activities, and utilizing evidence-based practice to drive improvement strategies. The RN is responsible for professional behavior and growth, acting as a role model, and maintaining knowledge of department and hospital activities. They foster teamwork, demonstrate effective interdepartmental communication, and support the professional development of coworkers. The RN must be able to work independently, make responsible decisions, and manage time effectively. Maintaining licensure and knowledge of current standards of care through continuing education and professional certification is also required.
