About The Position

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Perianesthesia (PACU) team at University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank Campus and Masonic Children's Hospital. This role involves working with a team including nursing assistants, schedulers, instrument technicians, and MDs. The PACU RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned Perianesthesia (pre- and post-op) patients, adhering to all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The RN coordinates care with the health care team and delegates responsibilities as appropriate. The UMMC West Bank is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota, providing a platform for specialized treatments and training. The unit has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, and 1 Cath Lab, serving an average of 36 cases per day with innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients. Surgeries cover a wide range of specialties including Ortho/Spine/Oral, Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic, Peds Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental, and Da Vinci Robotics.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years current experience as RN in PACU, ICU, IMC, or other critical care areas. NICU- only or ED-only experience is not applicable to minimum criteria.
  • Current MN RN License
  • BLS certification at time of hire
  • ACLS and PALS certification required within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years; experience as RN in PACU, ICU, or other Critical Care areas.
  • Hospital-based Adult and or Pediatric PACU experience.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Certification in a related specialty is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care.
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP).
