Registered Nurse (RN) PACU
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Hospital's Main Tower PACU is seeking an experienced, full-time registered nurse to care for a broad range of surgical patients, from ambulatory patients to those requiring critical care. The unit serves patients across the age continuum, from pediatric to geriatric, and includes surgical populations in ENT, general surgery, colorectal, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics (cosmetic and trauma), thoracic surgery, transplants, and urology. Nurses care for perianesthesia patients through all phases of care, including Preop, Phase 1, and Phase 2, and may rotate as needed to meet unit needs. Common shift times are 0800–2030, 0900–2130, 1000–2230, 1100–2330, and 1200–0030. Shift times are assigned according to seniority and unit needs. The schedule includes 1–2 weekend shifts per six-week schedule, three holidays per year, and 2–3 on-call shifts per six-week schedule.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of PACU or critical care (ICU/ED) nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or eligible for licensure there.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing. Registered nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) must complete a BSN within 5 years of their start date.

- 2 years of PACU and/or critical care nursing experience (ICU or ED).
Responsibilities
- Provide perianesthesia nursing care to surgical patients throughout Preop, Phase 1, and Phase 2.
- Care for patients across a variety of surgical specialties and age groups, including patients requiring critical care.
- Rotate among care phases as needed to meet the needs of the unit.
- Work assigned weekend and holiday shifts and participate in required on-call shifts.
