Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient Services
About The Position
This is a Registered Nurse (RN) position in Outpatient Services at Olmsted Medical Center. The role involves providing direct patient care, including education, in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities span various phases of patient care, from pre-procedure to post-procedure, including PACU care and monitored sedation. The RN will perform patient assessments, review medical history, interpret ECG rhythms, and care for patients of all age groups across multiple surgical specialties. The position requires developing and implementing nursing interventions, ensuring safe and effective care, and advocating for patients. The role also involves participating in policy development, managing information according to regulations, and maintaining organizational and nursing competencies.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited professional nursing program
- Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification within 90 days of hire
- PALS certification within 90 days of hire
Nice To Haves
- One to three years nursing experience preferred
- PACU experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Providing direct patient care including education with patient/family in an outpatient setting.
- Directing patient care in different phases of care; pre-procedure, intra-procedure, phase I (PACU), and phase II (post-procedure).
- Moderate sedation under the direct supervision of a physician.
- Completing patient assessment, reviewing medical history, current medications, and allergies.
- Interpreting ECG rhythms in PACU and monitored sedation.
- Caring for patient in all stages of life – pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Directing care of patients requiring surgery for orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, ophthalmology, ENT, dental, podiatry, and cardiac.
- Providing a comprehensive assessment of the health status of a patient through the collection, analysis, and synthesis or data used to establish a health status baseline and plan of care.
- Addressing changes in the patient condition.
- Developing nursing interventions to be integrated into the plan of care.
- Implementing nursing care through the execution of independent nursing actions.
- Implementing interventions that are delegated, ordered, or prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider.
- Providing safe and effective nursing care.
- Promoting a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Advocating for the best interests of individual patients.
- Designing and implementing teaching plans based on patient need and evaluating teaching effectiveness.
- Participating in the development of healthcare policies, procedures, and systems.
- Being accountable for the quality of care delivered, recognizing the limits of knowledge and experience; addressing the situations beyond the nurse’s competency, and performing at the level of education, knowledge, and skill ordinarily expected if an individual has completed an approved professional nursing education program.
- Maintaining OMC organization competencies and nursing competencies pertinent to area of practice.
