About The Position

This full-time Registered Nurse (RN) or LPN position in Internal Medicine involves a wide range of clinical responsibilities focused on patient care, education, and administrative support. Key duties include providing age-appropriate patient and caregiver teaching, performing patient intake, documenting clinical care, and conducting CLIA-waived lab testing, including venipuncture. The role also requires administering in-office diagnostic tests such as EKGs and vision/hearing screenings under direct supervision, and assisting healthcare providers during exams and procedures, potentially acting as a medical scribe. Responsibilities extend to managing Vaccines for Children (VFC) and adult vaccination programs, performing medication prior authorizations, and administering various types of injections. Additionally, the RN/LPN will be involved in inventory control of medical supplies, online incident reporting, and processing electronic documents within the EHR clinical inbox. The position also includes general office support, such as monitoring the front office for safety and addressing patient concerns, and responding to emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with at least an AS in Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide patient/family/caregiver teaching that is age-appropriate and adapted for individual learning needs.
  • Handle preparing exam rooms, assisting patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for age/gender appropriate patient assessments, documentation of clinical intake, monitoring, patient interventions, and care outcomes. Document all care and communication provided to (or about) patients.
  • Handle performing clinic-based CLIA-waived lab testing in compliance with all regulations and quality assurance requirements. Perform venipuncture and capillary blood drawings in the clinic and prepare blood samples for laboratory processing. Stay up to date on blood collection policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as maintaining competency for each test performed.
  • Perform a variety of in-office diagnostic tests, including but not limited to EKGs, vision and hearing screenings, etc. under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider.
  • Aid the provider during examinations and procedures as needed and within their scope of practice. May also perform the duties of a medical scribe and complete documentation during patient examinations and procedures as directed by the healthcare provider, including entering orders and referrals.
  • Understand and follow the requirements of the VFC program and aid the provider in obtaining vaccine information from the IRIS program as needed. Be familiar with vaccine schedules and screen patients according to protocol prior to the administration of all immunizations. Be proficient in administering childhood vaccines and completing the administrative requirements of the childhood vaccine program.
  • Be proficient in administering adult vaccines under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider. Be familiar with the CDC recommendations for adult vaccines and aid the provider in obtaining vaccine information from the CDC, USPSTF, and other resources as needed.
  • Handle performing medication prior authorizations with the patient’s insurance company.
  • Be proficient in administering subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider.
  • Handle scanning/ordering medical supplies and monitoring inventory of medical supplies in compliance with applicable Joint Commission and Rural Healthcare guidelines. Identify supplies that may improve the safety and quality of care and bring recommendations to the attention of the clinical lead and/or director for review.
  • Handle reporting any variances, near misses, or patient complaints regarding clinical care using the organization’s online incident reporting software.
  • Process both incoming and outgoing electronic documents in the EHR clinical in-box, including patient cases/phone calls/portal, processing and labeling incoming medical records, refill requests, consult notes, lab results, and other correspondence.
  • Aid overall function of office by monitoring front office area and waiting room for safety, security, privacy, and/or patient concerns. Promptly contact 9-1-1 for emergency situations. Promptly notify proper staff and leadership in the event of an incident or complaint AND use the online reporting system and/or EHR to document as per protocol. Relay necessary non-urgent information to team leads and/or director (i.e., office supplies needed, malfunction of equipment, etc.).
