About The Position

Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room Circulator West Allis, WI, United States. This role is within 13 OR beds, covering specialties including Breast, plastics, ENT, Urology, general, some vascular, gyn, robot, orthopedics and podiatry. The position involves delivering individualized care using the nursing process, monitoring patient condition, promoting patient safety, verifying patient identity and surgical site, educating patients and families, coordinating care and discharge planning, leading and delegating effectively, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives. The role also requires maintaining professional growth through ongoing education and participation in shared governance. Specific patient care duties include performing time outs, positioning patients, maintaining a sterile and safe environment, preparing the OR with necessary supplies, checking inventory, and documenting all aspects of the procedure.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized care using the nursing process—assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, mobilizing resources and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety by implementing risk-reduction strategies and reporting safety events promptly.
  • Verifies patient identity, allergies, and surgical site.
  • Educate patients and families, adapting teaching methods to meet unique learning needs and supporting readiness for discharge.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning through an interdisciplinary approach, ensuring continuity across the healthcare continuum.
  • Lead and delegate effectively, fostering teamwork and supporting unlicensed personnel.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and unit performance.
  • Maintain professional growth through ongoing education, competency completion, and participation in shared governance activities.
  • Patient Care - time outs, positioning of patient, maintains sterile and safe environment, prepares the OR with necessary supplies, checks for inventory, and documents all aspects of the procedure.
