About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Operating Room position is for experienced Operating Room Nurses. This role is located in the Main OR at St. Luke's in Milwaukee, WI. It offers a teaching environment that challenges knowledge and skills in surgical nursing. The RN acts as the patient's advocate during vulnerable times, working closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists, and assistants to achieve superior surgical outcomes. The orientation and practice environment are based on the specialty standards and educational programs of the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). The extensive RN orientation includes full training in the circulator role.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year nursing experience in the OR
  • Must be available to start Tuesday, September 8, 2026
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts to accommodate staffing
  • Positions need to take call
  • Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick
  • Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster
  • Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients
  • Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • 1-2 years OR experience needed
