About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Operating Room at Aurora West Allis Medical Center. The role involves delivering individualized patient care using the nursing process, monitoring patient conditions, promoting patient safety, educating patients and families, coordinating care and discharge planning, leading and delegating effectively, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives. The position requires participation in a weeknight, weekend, and holiday call rotation. The Operating Room has 13 beds and covers specialties including Breast, plastics, ENT, Urology, general, some vascular, gyn, robot, orthopedics, and podiatry.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized care using the nursing process—assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, mobilizing resources and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety by implementing risk-reduction strategies and reporting safety events promptly.
  • Verifies patient identity, allergies, and surgical site.
  • Educate patients and families, adapting teaching methods to meet unique learning needs and supporting readiness for discharge.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning through an interdisciplinary approach, ensuring continuity across the healthcare continuum.
  • Lead and delegate effectively, fostering teamwork and supporting unlicensed personnel.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and unit performance.
  • Maintain professional growth through ongoing education, competency completion, and participation in shared governance activities.
  • Patient Care - time outs, positioning of patient, maintains sterile and safe environment, prepares the OR with necessary supplies, checks for inventory, and documents all aspects of the procedure.
