About The Position

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join their Observation Unit team. This is a full-time position with day shifts, working three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Observation Unit (OBS) at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital consists of 15 beds and experiences rapid patient turnover, with patients typically staying for 24 hours or less. The patient population includes cardiac, neurological, medical, and surgical cases. This role offers opportunities for professional growth by providing exposure to a fast-paced environment similar to an ER while strengthening critical skills in a medical/surgical setting. It is ideal for candidates with strong time management skills who thrive in team-paced environments. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available for eligible nurses.

Requirements

  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate’s degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Requires a minimum of 1-year Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Observation, Medical Surgical, ED, PCU, or Cardiac Telemetry strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their relationships.
  • Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
  • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
  • Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care.
  • Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members.
