About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse (RN) position for the 3rd shift in the BHCOR-Cor NICU Intermediate unit in Corbin, KY. The Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 10-bed unit that provides specialized and intensive medical care for premature and critically ill newborns, from 32 weeks’ gestation through full term. The unit offers continuous monitoring and evidence-based interventions for respiratory, nutritional, and developmental needs, with a focus on family-centered care and safe discharge transitions. The role involves performing care that requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills based on psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences, applying the nursing process. It requires high-level assessment skills to design and ensure multidisciplinary patient care to meet holistic needs, adhering to practice guidelines and regulatory standards. The position also requires the ability to supervise LPNs, CNAs, Techs, Unit Secretaries, and Clinical students. All employees must continually monitor and adhere to safety responsibilities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with current RN licensure required.
  • Current Kentucky RN license or Kentucky work permit required.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Glucometer and Aegis Training required upon hire or per department needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents patient assessments, monitors condition changes, and updates care plans as needed.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and physician orders.
  • Develops individualized patient and family education and discharge plans using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, supervisors, patients, and healthcare team members to support quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, sound judgment, and appropriate delegation in routine and emergency situations.
  • Prioritizes workload, coordinates patient flow, and completes assignments efficiently within scheduled shifts.
  • Supports teamwork, staff development, and professional growth while serving as a resource to others.
  • Maintains required licensure, completes mandatory training, and follows all safety and regulatory requirements.
