The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurology Clinic plays a crucial role in patient care, engaging in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices. The RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, actively involving patients and families throughout their care continuum. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, adjusting care plans, mobilizing resources, and collaborating with the care team to achieve positive care outcomes. A strong emphasis is placed on upholding and promoting a culture of safety, continuously evaluating patient, team, and unit outcomes, and taking necessary actions. The RN may administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols. Effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution are essential for fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation. The position requires a commitment to professional development, completing required education, and maintaining certifications. Adherence to the ANA Code of Ethics and ethical decision-making is paramount, along with respecting interdisciplinary roles and contributing to integrated, unbiased patient care. The RN is responsible for appropriate delegation to other nursing staff and unlicensed assistive personnel, as well as maintaining accurate and timely EHR documentation. Flexibility is required, as the RN may be asked to float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs. The role requires demonstrated knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served, including understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess and interpret patient data to meet age-specific needs.
