About The Position

This is a full-time, night shift position for a Registered Nurse in the Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Texas Health Fort Worth. The unit is a 22-bed Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2. The department has received the Beacon Award three times and cares for patients with strokes, MSOF, CRRT, vent patients, and all forms of life support. It also supports a Brain Tumor and Spine program. The department is known for its high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling for work-life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. It features a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team. This is a high acuity, high volume department.

Requirements

Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
NIHSS – within 6 months of hire required
1-year Experience as a Registered Nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
ICU preferred - will consider PCU and ED experience
Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients.
Possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism.
Have basic computer skills using medical management application systems.
Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency

Responsibilities

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
