About The Position

We are seeking an experienced ICU RN for the Neuroscience ICU at Inova Fairfax Hospital. This is a fast-paced, team-driven environment focusing on high-quality care and professional development. Our nursing staff works closely with Neuro and Medical Intensivists, Interventionalists, Neurosurgeons and fellows, and APPs. The Neuroscience ICU (NSICU) at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is an 18-bed adult unit treating complex neurological patients. It is an academic Magnet-designated facility, nationally recognized, and holds the AACN’s Bronze Beacon Award. It is Northern Virginia’s only dedicated NSICU and a JCAHO-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center for the MidAtlantic Region, and Level 4 Epilepsy certified by the NAEC. The unit is actively engaged in clinical research, including advanced Interventional Radiology treatments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an ICU RN.
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification required.
  • ACLS strongly preferred (must obtain within first 3 months).
  • RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years ICU RN experience
  • Unit involvement
  • Advanced Nursing Certification (SCRN, CCRN, CNRN) or a desire to become certified.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care to complex neurological patients including (but not limited to): Ischemic & Hemorrhagic Strokes, Intracranial Hemorrhages, Seizures & Status Epilepticus, Cerebral Edema & Secondary Brain Injury, Brain Tumors, Neuromuscular Disorders, Post-interventional & neuro-surgical patients.
  • Work closely with Neuro and Medical Intensivists, Interventionalists, Neurosurgeons and fellows, and APPs.
  • Participate in clinical research.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including nursing, medical, APP, and pharmacy teams.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art monitoring and therapies.
  • Provide nursing and phlebotomy support with the assistance of clinical technicians.
