About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) at Texas Health Fort Worth. The NSICU is a 22-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, and it has been a three-time Beacon Award Recipient. The unit specializes in caring for patients with stroke, MSOF, CRRT, vent patients, and all forms of life support, as well as those in the Brain Tumor and Spine program. The department is known for its high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling options that promote work-life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. It also features a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team. The department is described as high acuity and high volume.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 6 months of hire required
  • 1-year Experience as a Registered Nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism.
  • Have basic computer skills using medical management application systems.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • ICU preferred - will consider PCU and ED experience

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
