Registered Nurse (RN) MSICU Nights
About The Position
The Medical Surgical ICU at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for an experienced ICU RN to join their amazing team! This is a Night Shift position, requiring 3 x 12-hour shifts per week. Orientation must be available during daytime hours. The Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) at Inova Fairfax Hospital is an 18-bed adult unit that provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for critically ill adult patients with complex medical conditions requiring advanced monitoring and life-sustaining therapies. The MSICU manages a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis and septic shock, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, severe pneumonia, COPD and asthma exacerbations, diabetic emergencies, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal failure requiring dialysis, toxicologic overdoses, neurologic emergencies, and multisystem organ failure. The unit features 18 private rooms, all equipped with patient lifts. It utilizes EpicCare electronic medical record technology for improved care and safety, and incorporates geriatric-sensitive color schemes and patterns for patient and visitor safety. Patient/Family zones are integrated into patient rooms to promote involvement, privacy, and comfort. Larger patient room windows allow more natural light to promote healing, and there is 360-degree patient access in critical care rooms for urgent in-room procedures. Free Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the hospital. Care needs of our patients may include, but are not limited to, patients requiring invasive hemodynamic and/or cardiac monitoring, intubation and mechanical ventilation, intravenous administration of vasoactive medications, conduction of medical and nursing research studies, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
Requirements
- 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship.
- BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
- BLS for healthcare provider certification from AHA required.
- RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN.
- Must be available to orient during daytime hours.
Nice To Haves
- 2+ years of ICU RN experience
- Unit involvement (e.g., committees, precepting, charge RN).
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized, multidisciplinary care for critically ill adult patients.
- Manage patients with complex medical conditions requiring advanced monitoring and life-sustaining therapies.
- Care for patients requiring invasive hemodynamic and/or cardiac monitoring.
- Manage patients requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation.
- Administer intravenous vasoactive medications.
- Participate in the conduction of medical and nursing research studies.
- Provide care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
