About The Position

This is a full-time night position for a Registered Nurse (RN) in Medical Surgical Oncology. The role involves delivering care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The nurse will incorporate age-specific safety and infection control measures, initiate actions to meet patient information needs, and maintain continuity of patient care between shifts, hospitals, and during transfers. The Medical Surgical Oncology unit has 24 beds and cares for patients receiving chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and complex biologic drug infusions.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred
  • Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency (required)
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – upon hire – expiration date greater than 3 months preferred
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 Days Req
  • ONS - Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate 18 Months Req
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • 1 Year Experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of RN experience in Oncology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
