About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Chemotherapy team at qathet General Hospital in Powell River, BC. This role involves coordinating, providing, and evaluating nursing care within the Medical Day Care Program. The nurse will collaborate with the Regional Oncologist, Physicians, and Nurse Manager on nursing standards, protocols, and procedures. A key aspect of the role is providing educational support to inpatients, ambulatory patients, and staff regarding oncology and intravenous nursing care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• One year recent related clinical experience in Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics.
• One year experience in the care of oncology patients and chemotherapy.
• One year recent clinical teaching experience.
• Current registration with BCCA.
• Demonstrated ability to participate in program development and implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively teach patients and families.
• Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
• Demonstrated ability in teaching other professional staff.
• Possess advanced intravenous therapy skill – peripheral and central.
• Demonstrated effective skills in verbal and written communication.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Coordination, provision, and evaluation of nursing care within the Medical Day Care Program.
• Collaboration with the Regional Oncologist, Physicians, and Nurse Manager in the preparation, maintenance, and implementation of nursing standards, protocols, procedures, and policies for the Medical Day Care Program.
• Providing educational assistance to inpatients, ambulatory patients, and staff with respect to oncology and intravenous nursing care.
