About The Position

Registered Nurse (RN), Medical & Housing RN/OT – (OPSEU) Full-Time, Permanent (Benefitted) This posting is the result of a current vacancy. London, Ontario (London Zone) - Application Deadline: May 19, 2026 - We believe that recovery from mental health and addictions is different for everyone. As a Registered Nurse, you’ll collaborate with clients and provide guidance to the clinical and multidisciplinary teams within our housing departments, to assess and advocate for the supports they need to achieve physical and mental wellness. Our Nursing Team works with community and hospital partners to provide excellent collaborative care, focusing on social determinants of health. This role performs a variety of functions including administration of psychotropic injections, health teaching, medication reconciliation, coordinating appointments, providing diabetes care and lifestyle supports to afford clients the ability to achieve success with their recovery goals. Within the Housing Department, the RN will support residents living in congregate as well as independent and youth housing environments. While working within Medical Services, the RN will support various community physician and psychiatric clinics. Hours differ in both departments. Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma in Nursing; Waiting to write and/or receive NCLEX results (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO); or has applied to the CNO for a temporary licence
  • Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Access to a vehicle required for personal transportation
  • Ontario G Driver’s Licence
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

  • Experience working with clients with addictions and serious mental illness
  • Knowledge of community resources in the Thames Valley region
  • Knowledge of a range of crisis prevention and intervention approaches including: crisis prevention strategies, crisis planning, crisis intervention, risk assessment, relapse prevention strategies, crisis services and hospital services

Responsibilities

  • Conducts physical and psychiatric assessments and makes appropriate referrals to community physicians and resources
  • Engages in direct care, mentoring, education, consultation
  • Assesses medication effectiveness, complications and side effects
  • Arranges and follows up with required lab work
  • Provides symptom education to enable participants to identify their mental illness symptoms
  • Coordinates mental health and psycho-social service
  • Identifies, develops, and maintains strong links with a wide range of community partners/resources
  • Coordinates and administers Depot Injections to participants
  • Develop and facilitate groups
  • Assists clients in making informed choices about health measures such as medications, immunization, palliative care, birth control, disease management, etc.
  • Provides health teaching by giving feedback, explanations and rationale for diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments
  • Provides teaching and research, as required
  • Assists clients in taking responsibility for and managing their health needs according to available resources and personal skills
  • Identifies and seeks to address the root causes of illness and disease
  • Assists clients in making healthier choices.
  • Establishes strong links to the inpatient team at LHSC for referrals to outreach injection program
  • Collaborates with community agencies to maintain coordination in the treatment process
  • Advocates for clients to obtain psychiatrists, family doctors, dentists, etc.
  • Identifies individual care requirements by establishing personal rapport with clients and with other persons in a position to understand care requirements
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and care providers’ philosophies and standards of care set out by the College of Nurses standards and other governing agency regulations
  • Protects clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
  • Maintains continuity among nursing team by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory which may include checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needs supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Assist residents to maintain good personal hygiene which may include but is not limited to bathing, dressing and continence care.
  • Assist residents with elimination and toileting
  • Supporting individuals with transfers and personal care.

Benefits

  • Starting rate for this role is $32.13 per hour (Level 1 – RN/OT), Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($41.41 per hour); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
  • 70 hours over two-week period; Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Immediate enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in the extended healthcare benefits plan
