About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse in the Maternal Child unit. The role requires the nurse to utilize the nursing process for patient care, collaborate with other departments and healthcare professionals, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include patient and family education, discharge planning, and supervision of nursing care. The nurse will also be responsible for administering medications, implementing physician orders, and performing patient assessments to identify various patient needs. Additionally, the role involves participating in patient rounds with physicians, assisting with tests and procedures, and promoting positive public relations for the nursing department and hospital. A specific responsibility includes the safe and effective administration of oncology chemotherapy.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing
  • BLS training
  • Current licensure by Missouri State Board of Nursing
  • Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

  • Previous nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care for patients utilizing the nursing process.
  • Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary departments and other patient care team members in maintaining Standards for Clinical Practice and Standards of Patient Care in the clinical setting.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement.
  • Participates in patient/family teaching and discharge planning.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided. Leads and facilitates decision making at the unit level.
  • Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with patient’s needs and nursing staff competencies and qualifications.
  • Competently performs core and specific skills.
  • Provides one unit based education to staff annually.
  • Competently administers medications with knowledge of action, mode of administration, side effects, and contraindications.
  • Implements, transcribes, and/or countersigns physician orders.
  • Utilizes assessment skills to identify biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, selfcare, discharge planning, spiritual and educational needs of patient, family, and/or significant other.
  • Communicates pertinent unit activities, work load fluctuations/staffing, and difficult situations.
  • Makes patient rounds with physicians and assists with diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Identifies learning opportunities for self and others.
  • Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital.
  • Competently assumes an active role in the safe, effective administration of oncology chemotherapy, understands mechanism of action, modes of administration, dosage calculation and contraindication.
