About The Position

This position involves administering an assigned nursing program or organizational unit with responsibility for planning, selecting, and/or devising methods and policies/procedures. The role includes directing nursing supervisors and other personnel to achieve designated goals. The manager will negotiate interdepartmental resources and communicate/plan with managers of other departments to ensure effective service levels. This role is part of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics in New Hampshire, a nationally recognized Academic Medical Center located in the White Mountains. The system offers a rigorous, research-focused environment and is part of a larger network stretching over New Hampshire and Vermont, providing a quintessential New England experience with no income or sales tax. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 2 years of clinical experience and demonstrated leadership ability required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Certification in a specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans adequate staffing and adjustments based on patient needs and staff skill mix.
  • Evaluates performance of staff members, including coaching and performance management processes.
  • Manages the hiring process.
  • Maintains and supports evidence based practices in the clinical area. Assures compliance with national standards and initiatives, e.g., National Patient Safety Goals and The Joint Commission. Promotes individual/peer and departmental accountability to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Goals.
  • Develops the budget for personnel and non-personnel expenses. Makes unit based decisions to promote stewardship of resources. Encourages and supports process improvements which promote fiscal responsibility.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient flow processes. Strategizes to improve efficiency and eliminate barriers that impact patient and family centered care.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
