About The Position

The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing in overseeing the daily operations within the nursing department, supervision, training and support in nurse delegation duties, and assist in ensuring optimal care and services for the Residents. This role involves promoting and restoring residents' well-being by overseeing the nurse delegation program and daily nursing assessments, ensuring resident care is provided with dignity and respect. The position also includes performing resident assessments, assisting with functional assessments, notifying relevant parties of significant changes in resident condition, and assisting in emergency situations. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for incident report writing, managing medication orders, transcribing physician orders, and functioning as a floor nurse when needed. Daily rounds to assess unit effectiveness, identifying and communicating care floor trends, and making recommendations for policy and procedure improvements are also key aspects of this role. Ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, completing reports, collaborating with state inspectors, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment are essential. The role also involves maintaining good rapport with residents, families, and visitors, and resolving concerns promptly. Other duties as directed by the Director of Nursing or Administrator will be performed.

Requirements

  • Current State of Hawaii Nursing License (LVN, RN), in good standing.
  • Current Tuberculosis Clearance, according to the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing in overseeing the daily operations within the nursing department.
  • Supervising, training, and supporting nurse delegation duties.
  • Ensuring optimal care and services for the Residents.
  • Overseeing the nurse delegation program and daily nursing assessments.
  • Ensuring resident care is provided in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Performing assessments for each resident, prior to admission, 30-days after admission, every six months thereafter, or as needed for any status change.
  • Providing assistance on functional assessments on all residents, including Fall Risk Assessment, Mini-Mental Assessment, Geriatric Depression Scale, and/or Elopement Assessment.
  • Notifying the Director of Nursing and Administrator, physician and family when significant changes in condition occur and taking appropriate action as directed.
  • Assisting in emergency situations involving the residents.
  • Responsible for Incident Report writing, in a timely manner and followed-up with an appropriate investigation.
  • Ensuring medications are ordered and received from pharmacy in a timely manner and handled in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensuring appropriate contact with physicians occurs regarding written and verbal orders (this includes properly transcribing physicians' orders with accuracy and assuring follow-up as indicated) in accordance with regulations, standard nursing practice and established community policies and procedures.
  • Functioning as a floor nurse, as needed, including the passing of any PRN medication.
  • Making daily rounds to determine unit effectiveness and identifies needs and concerns.
  • Identifying and communicating trends on the care floor, assisting the Director of Nursing and Administrator with a plan of action to follow through.
  • Making recommendations regarding policies and procedures to maintain the care program in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, while offering the best possible care to residents.
  • Ensuring care department sustains compliance with state and federal laws and community policies and procedures.
  • Completing forms and reports as requested by Director of Nursing or Administrator.
  • Collaborating efficiently with state inspectors regarding surveys and care complaints.
  • Assuring residents service department, supplies, equipment and work areas are clean, neat and orderly and submits requests for supplies within departmental budgets.
  • Maintaining good rapport with residents, families, visitors, and community members and resolves resident, family and community concerns promptly.
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Director of Nursing or/and the Administrator.
