Plans and delivers professional nursing care to patients. This role involves providing care under the direction of a physician, mentoring new staff and students, and performing acts within the scope of practice defined by the applicable licensing board. The position requires demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary for patient care, accurately evaluating patient needs, and maintaining a comprehensive care plan. Key responsibilities include promoting patient independence by establishing care goals and involving patients and families in discussions about medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills. The role also involves accurate administration and evaluation of medications, timely delivery of medications, and educating patients/families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, disease processes, symptom and pain management, and signs of death when appropriate. Additionally, the nurse must complete timely and accurate documentation, observe patients' conditions and report changes, act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values, and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI). Effective communication and professional working relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, and external agencies are essential.
