About The Position

The Clinical Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient and completing all documentation as required. The clinical nurse initiates teaching and educates the patient and family/or significant other to attain optimal health. RN has access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

Requirements

  • Current L&D experience is required
  • Current CA Registered Nurse License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times)
  • Effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels and able to maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers
  • Possess active listening skills
  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental caregiver and advocate
  • Able to independently manage multiple priorities
  • Must comply with Annual Health Review

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association ACLS certification within six months of start date
  • NRP certification within six months of start date
  • EKG certification within 30 days of start date (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns)
  • Initial Intermediate AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns) within six months of start date
  • Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns) within six months of start date

Responsibilities

  • Assumes the care of the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum patients or well newborn patients.
  • May perform the functions of circulating and recovery nurse for patients undergoing cesarean sections and other per partum surgical procedures.
  • If serving as charge/resource nurse, responsible for the day-to-day shift operations in the department, including staffing, managing unit resources, responding to changing workloads, interfacing with physicians, overseeing the Labor and Delivery unit, serving as a resource to staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
