About The Position

The IV Team/Rapid Response Nurse is a specialized clinical role responsible for providing expert vascular access services and responding to patient emergencies hospital-wide. This position supports patient safety, enhances nursing efficiency, and ensures high-quality care by delivering timely interventions during critical situations and assisting with difficult IV placements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current New York State RN License required.
  • Minimum 3-5 year of experience in critical care nursing required.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certification in vascular access (e.g., VA-BC) or critical care (e.g., CCRN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced vascular access procedures, including peripheral IV insertion, midline catheter placement, and difficult IV access management.
  • Troubleshoot and manage complications related to vascular access devices, such as occlusions, infiltration, or infections.
  • Collaborate with nursing and medical teams to identify patients requiring specialized IV support.
  • Provide education and training to nursing staff on IV insertion techniques and maintenance.
  • Monitor and maintain IV-related equipment and supplies.
  • Respond promptly to rapid response calls and provide advanced clinical assessment and intervention.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to stabilize patients and prevent escalation to code events.
  • Document all rapid response activities and interventions accurately and timely.
  • Participate in post-event debriefs and quality improvement initiatives to enhance emergency response processes.
  • Respond to MTP codes and be the subject matter expert on MTP protocols and utilization of the Belmont.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff regarding vascular access and rapid response best practices.
  • Participate in staff education sessions, including mock rapid response/code drills.
  • Maintain knowledge of current clinical guidelines, hospital protocols, and evidence-based practices.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects related to vascular access and rapid response outcomes.
