About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) plays a vital role in a dynamic 30-bed unit within a thriving rural setting. This step-down environment supports a Level 3 Trauma and Cardiac Receiving Center. The IMC RN is responsible for managing complex drips and diverse cardiac/trauma patients, providing care for patients moved from ICU to IMC, and developing nursing care plans. This position offers opportunities for advanced skill development, with clear pathways to transition into the ICU/Open Heart program or Emergency Department. The team fosters a proactive culture, emphasizing patient-centered care, teamwork, and community engagement through regular events and shared governance.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona or Compact State RN license
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing school
  • Minimum of 1 year Med/Surg/Telemetry experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required by completion of hospital orientation

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred
  • IMC/PCU or ICU experience preferred
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care for patients moved from ICU to IMC, utilizing critical care skills and professionalism.
  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment for Angio and Medical Surgery units in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Develops nursing care plan in coordination with patient, family and interdisciplinary staff as necessary.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • May float to Med/Surg unit or ICU/ED if trained (experienced).
