About The Position

The Progressive Care (Step down) Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status. This role acts as the service line between Med-Surg and ICU units, determining the priority of the patient’s problems and needs, and developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes. The RN ensures a safe and therapeutic environment for diverse intermediate patients, primarily those with cardiac and respiratory illnesses, including cardiac cath recovery and preparation for open heart surgery. New Graduate RNs are welcome to apply. The unit does not manage trachs/vent patients but does handle cardiac drips, high flow O2 (bipap, avaps, airvo), and can access temporary dialysis lines.

Requirements

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care, ACLS required within 6 months of hire)

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments
Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department
Administer medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and the organization’s policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
