About The Position

Join our brand-new intermediate care unit opening in 2027 and help us deliver remarkable care through high standards of patient care and exceptional communication. This state-of-the-art 16-bed hospitalist intermediate care unit specializes in providing comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adults presenting with a wide variety of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support. This is a unique opportunity for nurses to be part of creating and shaping a new space. This care area bridges the gap between intensive and general care, serving patients that may step down from ICUs or need higher levels of care during their hospital stay. Patient populations include those with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe multi-organ dysfunction. This brand-new unit will offer nurses a plethora of learning opportunities and is committed to providing patients and families the highest level of evidence-based care. Nurses on this unit excel in interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, ensuring smooth, safe transitions between levels of care, particularly for patients stepping down from critical care units to our intermediate care environment. We foster a supportive learning environment rooted in critical thinking and evidence-based problem-solving. Nurses have year-round opportunities to acquire new knowledge, advance their skills, and elevate their clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification Upon Hire
  • ACLS within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Inpatient Units: Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Relevant RN Experience
  • Relevant certification

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adults with a wide variety of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support.

  • Utilizing critical thinking and evidence-based problem-solving in a supportive learning environment.
  • Acquiring new knowledge, advancing skills, and elevating clinical practice.
