About The Position

The Infusion Clinic, located on the 5th floor of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion, provides vital care to oncology and other medical patients with conditions ranging from well-managed chronic illnesses to acute cases. Our nurses deliver compassionate care and ensure patient safety while administering life-saving chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other hazardous medications. The clinic fosters a strong sense of community, with patients often becoming part of an extended 'infusion family' due to long-term care needs. Joining this team means becoming part of a group that excels in teamwork, with leaders who understand the unique demands of the role. Nurses in the Infusion Clinic develop specialized skills and become credentialed to administer oncology medications. Clinic hours are 7 am to 7 pm, with options for 4 10-hour shifts or 5 8-hour shifts. Flexibility is required for late shifts and some holidays, with weekend hours anticipated in the future.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.
  • Current AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
  • At least 1 year of RN experience, preferably inpatient.
  • Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience.
  • Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous oncology experience is preferred.
  • Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
  • Clin II, Clin III: Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
  • Clin III: Certification in specialty area.

Responsibilities

  • Administering life-saving chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other hazardous medications.
  • Providing compassionate care to oncology and other medical patients.
  • Ensuring patient safety during treatment.
  • Developing specialized skills and becoming credentialed to hang oncology medications.
  • Delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administering prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Assisting the health care team with illness prevention, injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision.
  • Recognizing and intervening appropriately in changes in patient situations.
  • Mobilizing resources to meet the individualized needs of patients and families.
  • Providing direction and education.
  • Assuming leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
  • Organizing work and delegating and supervising others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
