About The Position

Hartford Hospital, part of Hartford HealthCare, offers an exciting opportunity for career development and growth through its Medicine-to-ED Bridge Program. This program is designed for nurses interested in transitioning to an Emergency Department role after building foundational skills in a Medicine unit. Hartford Hospital is a leading tertiary care teaching hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Comprehensive Cardiac Center, known for its cutting-edge technology and commitment to patient safety. The Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Connecticut, treating high-acuity patients and working closely with Medicine inpatient units to ensure a collaborative continuum of care. This bridge program provides a structured pathway for nurses to gain experience, with individualized development plans, coaching, mentorship, and transitional orientation to the ED setting.

Requirements

  • Current Connecticut RN License required prior to start date
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • ADN/ASN or BSN (preferred)
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff.
  • Uses the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family.
  • Works in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient-centered care model.
  • Builds foundational nursing skills and knowledge within a Medicine unit.
  • Gradually transitions to the ED setting with support of leadership.
  • Participates in the creation of individualized development plans with managers of both Medicine unit and ED.
  • Engages in collaborative coaching sessions with managers.
  • Works with experienced RNs from both Medicine and ED assigned as mentors.
  • Undergoes transitional orientation to care for inpatients in the Emergency Department.
  • Is evaluated for readiness to transition fully to the ED after completing each step of the bridge program.
