About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the General Surgery Stepdown/Medical-Surgical Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional care to post-operative and medically complex surgical patients in a fast-paced academic medical center known for excellence in patient care, education, and innovation. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail-oriented nurse with strong clinical judgment and experience caring for surgical and high-acuity patients.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state. Candidates do not need a West Virginia RN license in hand at the time of application. Licensure may be obtained prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS Certification required.
  • Current ACLS Certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, Medical-Surgical, or Surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred.
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients recovering from general surgical procedures and acute medical conditions.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
  • Monitor post-operative patients for changes in condition, complications, and recovery progress.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  • Manage drains, wound care, pain control, and other post-surgical interventions.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, medications, recovery expectations, and discharge planning.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
