The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. This role involves performing the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice and analytical/critical thinking. The nurse provides relationship-based, patient-centered care, adapting to cultural diversity and partnering with patients and families to focus on their goals. The role also includes coordinating care delivery, documenting care, promoting a respectful environment, and demonstrating fiscal responsibility. Professional development, including competency assessments and mandatory education, is essential. The RN may serve as a preceptor or mentor. The role promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement, upholding all organizational policies and standards, including TJC Patient Safety Goals. Participation in data collection and consulting experts to address practice questions is expected. Proactive planning for patient care across the continuum and supporting efficient resource use are key functions.
