About The Position

Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse First Assistant to join the team. This role will be Full-Time, Monday-Friday; Required: 5-6 Days On-Call per Month; Travel when on call may involve all 5 Inova Main Hospital Locations + Inova Woodburn. Requirements

• BSN or AD. If RN has an AD, within 2 years from date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date
• Successful completion of an RFNA program that meets AORN recommended education standards for RN First Assistant programs.
• 5 years of Perioperative Nursing experience as both a scrub and circulating nurse or three recommendations from practicing, surgeons and demonstrated clinical practice in the case of less than five years of experience
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
• Certified Nurse Operating Room
• Seeks CRNFA certification
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license

Responsibilities

• Formulates individualized plans of care for patients with complex needs to achieve desired outcomes.
• Serves in a lead role in coordinating the care of patients and the team process.
• Delegates patient care activities to other healthcare team members and redirects unit activities as patient acuity and census change.
• Collects and interprets complex assessment data while recognizing subtle changes in patients.
• Shares data with team and supports surgeons.
• Collaborates with the surgery team and other disciplines to meet desired patient outcomes.
• Communicates effectively and seeks out opportunities to improve communication among healthcare team members, patients and families.
• Actively participates as a member of the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) team and committees.
• May serve as charge nurse by coordinating staff/surgery schedules and handling daily issues with positive outcomes.
• Serves as lead, role model, clinical resource and mentor to the team.
• Evaluates staff on practice delivery and recommends additional education if needed.
• Assesses learning needs and helps to facilitate appropriate training.
• Collaborates with team members in the development and implementation of education plans.
• May serve as preceptor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
