The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is responsible for delivering patient care using the nursing process, including data collection, assessment, identifying and prioritizing patient needs, and evaluating care outcomes. The RNFA collaborates with the surgeon during invasive or operative procedures, ensuring a safe environment and optimal patient outcomes. This role requires the RNFA to possess and apply knowledge of the procedure and the patient's intraoperative experience throughout their continuum of care, addressing physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in relation to age and ability to respond. The RNFA functions as a first and second assistant, and is capable of serving as the primary scrub person. This position maintains a safe and aseptic environment in the Operating Room and assists in intra-operative patient care by performing assigned technical duties. The role services neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
