About The Position

This is a paid fellowship track designed to prepare RNs with 1 year plus of Medical/Surgical or Step Down experience for a successful transition into the Emergency Department (ED). The track includes didactic training with classroom sessions led by experienced ED educators and ENA via Learning Space, covering emergency nursing principles, management of various emergencies, advanced life support protocols, crisis resource management, documentation standards, and competency assessments. It also includes hands-on clinical training with rotations through high-acuity ED zones, simulation-based training, practical skills development, and direct mentorship. Upon completion, fellows will be equipped to function independently in all areas of the ED. This opportunity is only open to experienced RNs; new graduates will not be considered.

Requirements

  • BSN preferred (or commitment to obtain within 3 years)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Med/Surg or Stepdown units
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Flexibility to manage a high volume of patients in a Level III Trauma Center
  • BLS – Required

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS – Will obtain during orientation
  • PALS – Will obtain during orientation
  • TNCC – Will obtain during orientation or within 6 months following orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in classroom sessions led by experienced ED educators covering emergency nursing principles and best practices.
  • Learn management of trauma, cardiac, neurological, and pediatric emergencies.
  • Undergo training in advanced life support protocols (ACLS, PALS, TNCC).
  • Develop skills in crisis resource management and team communication.
  • Understand documentation standards in emergency care.
  • Complete competency assessments to ensure clinical readiness.
  • Engage in rotations through high-acuity ED zones including trauma bays, fast-track, and critical care pods.
  • Participate in simulation-based training for emergency scenarios, rapid response, and triage decision-making.
  • Develop proficiency in IV insertion, airway management, trauma & wound care, and emergency medication administration.
  • Receive direct mentorship and preceptorship from seasoned ED nurses.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other emergency care professionals.
  • Function independently in all areas of the ED upon completion of the fellowship.
