About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Endoscopy is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care throughout the patient's endoscopic experience, utilizing the nursing process framework. This role involves collaborating with physicians and healthcare team members to plan care and establish desired outcomes, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available, and involving peers in care planning. The nurse will provide safe, economical, and efficient nursing care, keep waiting significant others informed of patient status, and practice universal precautions and safety measures. The position requires adherence to federal, state, and nurse practice guidelines, recognizing and reporting changes in patient status, and conserving materials and equipment. Responsibilities also include specimen preparation and documentation, clear communication with relief staff, directing team members in emergencies, measuring patient responses to interventions, and ensuring equipment is returned to its proper location. The role involves identifying and prioritizing individual patient care needs based on age, psychosocial, cultural, and physical status, planning care based on the contemplated procedure, standards of practice, admission assessment, and physician preference. Accurate and legible documentation of patient progress, outcomes, and interventions is essential, as is completing resuscitation records after Code Blue procedures. The nurse will assess the physiological and psychosocial health status of patients, identify chief complaints, assess pain per policy, and assess patient medical history. Competency in patient identification verification and pre-procedure phone calls is also required.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current Illinois Registered Nurse License
Current American Heart Assn. BLS and ACLS certifications.
Demonstrates current, comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in conformance with recognized nursing standards and department policies including the Patient Bill of Rights and AAAHC regulations, Standards for Nursing Care and the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities

Delivery of safe patient care in the Endoscopy period of the patient’s Endoscopic experience through the framework of the nursing process.
Consults with physician and other health care team members in planning care and establishing desired outcomes.
Ensures that required equipment and supplies are available.
Involves peers and other team members in planning and revising of care.
Bases nursing care on specific nursing diagnoses and nursing orders.
Gives safe (economical) and efficient nursing care to the patient.
Ensures that waiting significant others receive periodic status/progress reports per physician input.
Practices and assists others in maintaining universal precautions and electrical and environmental safety.
Practices within federal, state and nurse practice guidelines and regulations.
Is able to recognize changes in patient status; reports pertinent information.
Conserves materials and equipment through appropriate use.
Prepares and labels all specimens according to hospital policy and procedure; documents appropriately.
Gives pertinent, concise, precise information to relief staff.
Directs and delegates activity of team members appropriately in emergency situations.
Measure patient responses to medical and nursing interventions based on expected outcomes.
Ensures that equipment and supplies are returned to their proper location after use.
Identifies and prioritizes individual patient care needs according to age, physiological, psychosocial, cultural and physical status.
Plans care based on contemplated procedure, standards of practice, admission assessment and MD preference.
Documents in a clear, concise, accurate, legible manner.
Documents all necessary information related to patient’s progress and outcomes in interventions.
