About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan. This role involves the patient and family in care planning and implementation, developing therapeutic relationships throughout the healthcare continuum. The RN anticipates and recognizes significant changes in patient condition, status, and care needs, providing ongoing assessment and taking appropriate action. They adapt the care plan as needed, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the healthcare team for patient-centered care. Strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety are implemented. The RN assesses patient and family readiness to learn, individualizing the approach and developing strategies to meet learning needs. They coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach and apply evidence-based practice. Nursing and regulatory standards of care are consistently incorporated. The RN evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action when changes are needed. They support shared governance activities to improve processes and patient outcomes, demonstrating effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills. Collaboration among healthcare team members is promoted. The RN assumes a leadership role in the care team and delegates appropriately to unlicensed personnel. A culture of safety is promoted by identifying and intervening in threats to patient safety, reporting safety events and near misses promptly, and assisting in implementing corrective actions. Ethical decision-making, respect for peers, and an integrated, unbiased approach to care are demonstrated. Participation in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional activities for personal and others' development is expected. The RN seeks opportunities for learning, coaching, and mentorship, and completes required meetings, educational programs, and annual competencies in a timely manner. The role requires the ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and assessing/interpreting data to meet age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
  • Demonstrates progression to provide holistic patient care and the ability to view clinical situations from a patient and family focus.
  • Demonstrates progression to recognize situational changes that require unplanned or unanticipated interventions, and responds to situations with confidence, timeliness and flexibility.
  • Proficient computer skills, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates human relation skills with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively make critical, independent decisions.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates time management skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize in an environment with frequent interruptions.
