About The Position

This is a collective bargaining unit position. The Clinical Nurse I (CN I) functions as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, assuming responsibility for directing care for a team of patients, using the CN II as a resource. The nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. Demonstrates competencies essential in the use of all equipment utilized in the care of patient age groups as indicated. A CN I is the entry step to the Mercy (CHP) Clinical Ladder, with one year to progress to the CN II level. The Clinical Nurse II (CN II) functions as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, assuming responsibility for directing care for a team of patients. He/she demonstrates clinical competency, evidence of nursing leadership, and coordinates the nursing care of a specific group of patients. Nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. Precepts new employees as assigned. Demonstrates competencies in the use of equipment essential in the care of patient age groups as indicated. A CN II is the second step of the Mercy (MERCY) Clinical Ladder. This is the competent Staff Nurse level.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure from the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Successful completion of general and unit-specific orientation and hospital probationary period.
  • Completes Orientation Checklist.
  • Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety & CPR/BLS Recertification.
  • Must have theoretical knowledge combined with beginning level clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN I).
  • Must have theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN II).
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.
  • ACLS is required (for CN II).

Nice To Haves

  • Progress to the CN II level within one year (for CN I).
