About The Position

Join the dedicated nursing team at Sentara Obici Hospital, a 175-bed, full-service community hospital in Suffolk, Virginia, known for compassionate, high-quality care and strong teamwork. This role is for a motivated Registered Nurse to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in the Emergency Department (ED) on a full-time 11am-11pm shift. The Emergency Department at Sentara Obici Hospital is a fast-paced, 37-bed unit, including a dedicated 5-bed Behavioral Health Safe Suite, treating over 53,000 visits annually. The skilled team of emergency nurses, physicians, and techs cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies, utilizing advanced technology and rapid response protocols. ED nurses are highly collaborative, quick-thinking, and supported by leadership that prioritizes innovation, safety, and professional growth, making it an excellent place to develop critical assessment and triage skills.

Requirements

  • RN-Associate’s Degree, RN-Bachelor’s Degree, RN-Diploma, or RN-Master’s Degree
  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS and PALS or ENPC within one (1) year of hire
  • Minimum of 6 months of Registered Nurse (RN) experience in an acute care setting such as Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, or Recovery Room (new grad RNs are not considered)

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Acute care experience in other type units may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion, and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
