About The Position

Workfit Staffing is seeking a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) provides age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and deliver treatments and procedures. Utilizes clinical judgment and leadership skills to direct and delegate activities of the patient care team. This is a travel assignment with opportunities in Auburn, Buffalo, Rochester, Clifton Springs, Geneva, and Utica, NY. A radius rule of 50 to 100 miles must be met to qualify for certain travel assignments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Must obtain BSN within five years if enrolled after September 1, 2010.
  • Current New York State RN license.
  • BCLS required; ACLS preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physiological and psychosocial health status, including mobility, sensory deficits, skin condition, pain level, and coping mechanisms.
  • Conduct patient interviews, explain policies/procedures, and review charts.
  • Identify actual or potential patient problems and develop individualized care plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Document assessments, care plans, and patient progress accurately in compliance with departmental policy.
  • Administer medications safely and correctly, including IVP and drip medications; monitor patient responses.
  • Perform treatments and procedures using proper scientific principles and aseptic techniques.
  • Implement behavior management and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment; provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and diagnostic treatments.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate and implement patient care.
  • Provide direction to support staff and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Communicate patient status, changes, and needs to physicians and the care team.
  • Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education, including medication teaching and post-hospital care.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and effectiveness of care; document findings.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and variance analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform preventive skin care and decubitus care (grades I-IV).
  • Apply dressings, warm/cold compresses, and perform irrigations as needed.
  • Respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
